I’ve often wondered what long term effect Short Term Missions has on the mission field. What can a week of kids clubs and work projects accomplish? Well here’s a few success stories from this week’s short term team from Cedar Park Church in BC, Canada.
This week, the Chachoengsao team hosted a team of 18. We’ve hosted a few other teams since we’ve been here, but none this large. The TREK team’s role this week was to assist the team in the kids clubs they planned in Ed and Ingrid’s muban (a new village we are doing ministry in) and Sandy’s muban, which were held every evening. The team did a fabulous job of planning and orchestrating the 5-day kids clubs, so we really just helped with crowd control. (It was nice just to assist for once instead of plan the whole event! 🙂 At Ed and Ingrid’s muban, we had about 20-30 kids each night from age 3 to 12. Some parents and grandparents were in the park as well and listened in on the stories. It was fun to begin to build relationships with the kids and their parents over the week. On the last night at both locations, the Cedar Park team told the Easter story and Pastor Naat presented the gospel. All the children at both clubs, about 10 at Sandy’s and 20 at Ed and Ingrid’s, prayed to receive Christ. Pray that Ed and Ingrid will be able to grow these kids’ faith and that their parents and grandparents will be drawn into the Kingdom as well.
The team hired two songtaow drivers to get them around from place to place. On Tuesday afternoon, we were all eating and hanging out at Dave and Louise’s house. The drivers hung out as well, because…well…they were the transportation. While they were waiting, P’ Chin laid down the gospel and Pastor Naat led them in a prayer to receive Christ. Dave and Louise have been building relationship and sharing the gospel with this father and son duo for 2 years, and this week was their week of salvation. Praise the Lord! They continued to follow us around all week and heard the gospel many more times as we presented to the kids. They even came to church with us on Sunday. Please pray for their faith to grow and that they will become plugged in to the church.
